About Me
I started my nursing career in the hospital setting and realized how many patients were in need of preventive care and health education. Hypertension, diabetes, heart failure, depression, and obesity were everywhere in the hospital, and I soon wanted to make the difference in patients’ lives by helping them understand their disease and to either prevent it or slow the progression. That was why I first started in Internal Medicine as a Nurse Practitioner. As I worked with patients, I soon learned how many were not getting their concerns heard in the fast paced, symptomatic treatment model of our current medical care system. I tried so hard to give that extra time with my patients and educate them but was under pressure to see patients in a short amount of time which led to a great deal of frustration. I wanted to be able to provide healing and empower my patients to improve their health but too much of healthcare in conventional medicine is controlled by what insurance will approve.
I spent most of my career as a nurse practitioner working with internal medicine patients with a variety of chronic medical conditions. I educated patients as best I could, but I was prescribing prescription medication to only treat symptoms. Traditional medicine is wonderful for acute illness, trauma, emergencies, and surgery, but it is failing people with chronic illnesses.
I knew that there were nutritional deficiencies and environmental factors that could be treated with nutrition, supplements, and lifestyle changes but did not have the time to educate my patients while working in the typical medical environment. I have always had an interest in functional medicine and had started learning and applying the principles to both myself and my family. Once I completed my certification in functional medicine, I knew I wanted to help others begin their journey of understanding and empowering them to adopt healthy choices in their lives. I love sharing new information regarding health will continue learning ways to improve others’ lives and will continue to share this information with my patients.
I believe conventional medicine and functional medicine can work in harmony together, but most people are able to change their health with proper nutrition and lifestyle changes. Many people will also need functional medicine tests to figure out the root causes to their healthcare problems. I am able and willing to work with your current primary care provider to improve your health. I truly believe functional medicine is the future of medicine and that most clinicians will be practicing this way of medicine in the years to come.
I am ready to help guide you on your journey to heal, restore, and thrive if YOU are ready to put in the work to change your lifestyle, change your mindset, and start feeling your best.
I offer longer appointments, various tools, and functional medicine labs to help you start feeling your best. I cannot serve as your primary care provider, but I can help with hypertension, hormone imbalances, thyroid disease, diabetes, elevated cholesterol, depression, anxiety, obesity, and so much more.
